‘World No Tobacco Day’ we should all spare a thought
about the deteriorating health of our young and aspiring citizens due to
smoking and tobacco consumption.
Our country is going through a phase of transition
from a developing to developed country. During these times, the good health of
our countrymen shall ensure achieving our goal of becoming a prosperous nation.
Smoking and tobacco consumption has increased to a great extent in our country.
There is also escalation of number of cases of diabetes, hypertension, heart
attack, stroke and cancer especially among youngsters below 40 years of age.
“An estimated 10 lakh deaths in India are attributed
to tobacco consumption. About 20% of male deaths and 5% of female deaths is due
to smoking amongst Indians between 30 and 70 years”- said by Dr.Praveen Varma, Pulmonologist.
Time has come to think seriously about changing our
lifestyle and concentrating more on quitting smoking and tobacco consumption,
eating a healthy diet and regular exercise.
For years, we have been told through various sources
about the serious consequences of smoking and tobacco consumption however, we
seem to take it lightly until a catastrophic event or a disease develops by
which time it may be too late to change our fate.
There is a great need to think now and act. Think
about your family, your friends, yourself and your nation. Quit smoking- it is
time!!!.
On the eve of the same CARE Hospitals, Nampally is
