Atrial Fibrillation center
at CARE Hospitals, Hyderabad
India’s
first Atrial Fibrillation (A fib) center was unveiled at CARE Hospital,
Hyderabad on the 7th of July,
2012. This is an important contribution to patient care by CARE Hospital, India’s 4th largest
chain of hospitals, considering its contribution to the health care industry
and cardiac patients in particular.
Atrial
fibrillation (A fib) accounts for more than a third of hospitalizations in
patients suffering from heart rhythm disorders. A fib is an irregular and rapid
heart rhythm. This results from abnormal electrical impulses generated from the
upper chambers (atria) causing the
heartbeat to be fast and irregular. This irregularity could be continuous or intermittent
and erratic. The most common symptom in people with intermittent A fib is
palpitations, often perceived as a pounding sensation in the chest. Many people
also describe an irregular fluttering sensation in their chests. A fib is
associated with a five-fold increase in the risk of stroke and in the extreme
situation even death.
As
a permanent cure for this condition catheter based therapies have been
developed. The highlight of this programme will be a demonstration of Catheter Ablation of Atrial
Fibrillation which will be telecast to over 20 Cardiology institutes.
International and national Pioneers in this field will participate in
demonstration of these procedures to different centers across the country.
To improve awareness and optimize patient
care, CARE hospitals has organized a workshop on 7th and Symposium
on 8th of July at the Novotel Hotel, Airport, Hyderabad. Dr. Dipen Shah, University Hospital of Geneva,
Switzerland, Dr. Dhanunjaya Lakkireddy,
University of Kansas Hospital, USA, are the distinguished invitees
participating in this programme, in addition to several eminent national
faculty. Various aspects of A fib
diagnosis and management including newer
anticoagulants, nonsurgical & surgical management of this condition will be
discussed. Left Atrial appendage
occlusion to prevent stroke will also be demonstrated during this meeting. With
better understanding of this condition, we can prevent serious complications,
such as stroke. This unique and informative symposium will not only increase
the awareness among the audience but also create a milestone in the treatment
of Atrial fibrillation in India.
