“RUN FOR LIVER HEALTH – RUN FOR HEPATITIS”
Hyderabad,
28th July,2012: The “RUN FOR
LIVER HEALTH – RUN FOR HEPATITIS” event was organized on the occasion of
WORLD HEPATITIS DAY by Care Hospitals Banjara Hills, GHMC, Rotary, COVA and
Channel V6 at People’s Plaza Necklace Road Hyderabad on 28th July
2012 at 6.30 am.
The
event was attended and flagged off by many dignitaries prominent among them
were Shri Dr.A.

All
had gathered at the People’s Plaza to raise the awareness for Hepatitis –
Infection of the Liver with Hepatitis Virus A, B, C, D, E. Dr Manisha Bangar
mentioned in introductory and welcome speech that for the first time a RUN for
Liver Health is taking place in Hyderabad. Hepatitis B and C are silent killer
diseases. The Hepatitis B & C spread through body fluids & infected
blood causing chronic long standing serious liver injury resulting in decreased
life span. In India 4- 5 in 100 people are carrying the Hepatitis B Virus and
they are potential transmitters of the infection to family members and close
contacts. Hepatitis B and C are silent killer diseases as the carrier remains. A
symptomatic for a decade or more. Awareness among public and effective
vaccination will result in decreased carrier rates.
On
this occasion Dr.Varaprasad added that Hepatitis B is more deadly than
HIV and causes more number of deaths. The indigenous developed Hepatitis
Vaccine by Shantha Biotech is highly effective and economical. Mr. Krishna Babu
has emphasized the need for safe life style habits to maintain the good healthy
liver. Surya Teja, famous film actor,
also argued for the need of vaccination
for all citizens.
Rotarian
Dr.Nagabhushan said that with
continued efforts by all organizations and effective implementation of
vaccination program soon we will have India free of Hepatitis B Problem.
A
free vaccination of 1st dose of Hepatitis B vaccine and free
screening for Hepatitis B was provided at the venue by the organizers. The
event was attended by 300 and more people from youth, health care
professionals, students and general public.
